Sleeping Fails

String Bean never ceases to amaze us with her talents.

Fail #1: At 4 am, she woke up screaming at the top of her lungs because she'd taken off her clothes and diaper (despite the tape I'd put on it) and peed on herself and her crib. I suppose with a fan blowing on you when you're wet, it feels pretty awful. Since there was a pooping incident earlier in the week, we are on our last set of un-soiled sheets. Here's hoping we make it to laundry day.

Fail #2: I failed to mention to the babysitter that String Bean was due for a nap. After playing hide-and-seek for a little while, the babysitter started leafing through the GRE Study book she had while String Bean was playing. Noticing how quiet it got, she checked and String Bean had zonked out on the floor. That's a first.

Moo, Baa, Meow

Picture this:

A man calls his daughter who is babysitting the cutest toddler known to man. He tries to rush to get off the phone because he's overdue for a board meeting. "Before you go, Dad," says the babysitter, "You've gotta hear this!"

String Bean proceeds to bark, meow and make other over-the-top adorable noises. Said man walks into meeting puts her on speaker-phone and a room full of business-persons erupt with laughter.

True story.

Visting the Ducks

String Bean watching the ducks at the zoo.

Our babysitters (we have 2) took String Bean to see the ducks at the local zoo two days in a row last week.

The last two days when we ask her what she'd done with Lexie (one of the sitters) her answer has been clicking and opening and closing her hand which is her sign for "duck." Both days we've asked Lexie if she took String Bean to see the ducks again. Both times, the answer has been no.

I guess the visits to the ducks last week really made an impression. Luckily for String Bean, we are planning a trip to the zoo tomorrow!

Another Lay Off

Our former babysitter left us to work at a more lucrative job (Starbucks). At only 4 hours a week, we just were not a big enough source of income. They day after she accepted the Starbucks job, her husband was laid off.

Gretchen and her husband have both graduated from college/grad school in the last year. This is a big blow to them and a scary place for Gretchen as a fairly new wife.

If you are the praying kind, would you pray for Gretchen and Ryan? The economy has hurt so many people. We must remember to uplift them to the God who owns the cattle on a thousand hills and has promised to provide for our needs.
