Haiti Earthquake Relief

Join Just We Moms in helping raise funds for Haiti Earthquake Relief! We are raising funds for Samaritan's Purse who already have sent out aid as of this afternoon to Haiti.

You can donate online securely through First Giving. The direct link to the page is http://www.firstgiving.com/jwm.

We are excited to see what kind of fund raising moms like us can do from home. Any dollar amount will help those in Haiti devastated by the Earthquake yesterday. Willing to give up your Starbucks drink for the day? (Or if you are my co-blogger, Amy, your Coke for the day?) Please consider donating that amount toward relief. Being that Haiti is an impoverished nation, funds will be needed to help with immediate needs and long term rebuilding.

Let's see what Just We Moms (that means YOU) can do to make a small difference! If you are interested in adding the progress button you see displayed to the left on your blog, please email us and we'll send you the code.

P.S. Ok...You don't have to be a mom to help us raise funds.

P.P.S. Update--funds are continuing to add up thanks to college students from Azuza Pacific University, Biola, and Olivet Nazarene University. This is not just a mom effort!

Another Lay Off

Our former babysitter left us to work at a more lucrative job (Starbucks). At only 4 hours a week, we just were not a big enough source of income. They day after she accepted the Starbucks job, her husband was laid off.

Gretchen and her husband have both graduated from college/grad school in the last year. This is a big blow to them and a scary place for Gretchen as a fairly new wife.

If you are the praying kind, would you pray for Gretchen and Ryan? The economy has hurt so many people. We must remember to uplift them to the God who owns the cattle on a thousand hills and has promised to provide for our needs.

Liquid Gold

Many of you moms have heard the term "Liquid Gold" to describe breast milk. Of course, I agree that breast milk has all sorts of benefits for babies and is the natural/organic way to feed them. It is the way God intended. String Bean is 16 months old and still breastfed.

I'm not here to argue with you about the merits of breast milk or to open up the breast milk versus formula debate. The "Liquid Gold" I am drinking today is the free Starbucks drink I got for doing a survey. I don't know about you, but I'd prefer to drink Starbucks over breast milk any day!

Cheers!

Compliments from Strangers

String Bean and I pulled up to the little strip mall where our local Starbucks is located. In the window of the Verizon store a man caught my eye, looked at my little one and a large smile came across his face. After ordering my drink, I saw him walk into Starbucks and order his.

Since String Bean always has a cookie in each hand, she was full of a mixture of cookie crumbs and drool which had made a nice paste on her hands. Quite disgusting looking. I took her over to wipe her hands off and the man came over to the napkin stand and said, "She sure is cute, but I bet you hear that all the time." So, in the spilt second before I responded with "Thanks, we never get tired of hearing it!" I wondered if we should crown him Man-of-the-Year or give him a dunce cap and stand him in the corner and dub him Master of the Obvious.

Man-of-the-Year: If I had been a single mom, that line would have been the perfect pick up line. Not only was he complimenting my child (and as an extension-me), but also assumed that I'd been hearing this sort of compliment her whole life. A stroke of genius.

Master of the Obvious: Anyone who know me and String Bean knows full well how cute she is. His statement merely stated the obvious. Any fool should know that we've been getting compliments on her adorable-ness from strangers for months (16 to be exact). Even her ultrasound got compliments from strangers like, "Wow, not only is it obvious this child is gifted, it is also obvious that she is a shoe-in for Miss America. No other contestants need apply."

I'm torn. Don't misunderstand, I'll take the compliment. Thank you very much, Mr. Stranger. What do you think? Man-of-the-Year or Master of the Obvious?
